Running AWAY from Bush

Seems like Vito Fossella (R-NY) isn't as enamored of the President as he once was.

President Bush was never for elimating the mortgage interest deduction.

Ummm, that's nice. About Bush and the Mortgage Interest deduction. But that's not the point. The point is that here we have an Uber-Right Wing Republican Congressman trying WAY HARD to distance himself from the incumbent Republican President - who he has supported almost every step of the way - in his campaign literature. It's almost even better/worse (depending on your point of view) if he's not being completely truthful about Bush's position. That would mean that he agrees with Bush, but he's trying to make it look like he doesn't. Delicious.

President Bush wanted Ideas on how to simplfy the Tax code ( Believe me, working for myself, the tax code is very complicated and vague). One of the responses was to elimate the mortgae interest deduction (along with other tax deductions). Kinda of a Flat tax thing. This is automatically translated into "BUSH WANTS to ELIMATE THE MORTGAGE TAX DEDUCTION", Which he does not. want at this time. You have to read 4 or 5 articles on the same story to get the truth ( And sometimes that does not work)
Remember the Advance is not a Bush supporter, so they always tilt the facts to make Bush look bad (Of course not as bad as the NY TIMES or Washington POST, They want to make President Bush look bad even if it hurts US security).

One last thing, remember Politics is mostly about power; most politicians will do or say anything to maintain power.

That wasn't from the SI Advance. That was from Vito Fossella's own campaign flyer. And, if you look at the Daily News article linked to you'll see that he's in a fair amount of trouble - he broke a number of House rules.

The POINT has almost nothing to do with taxes. The POINT has to do with Republicans running for re-election distancing themselves from an incumbent Republican President.
